FAQs

  • I see clients Tuesdays and Wednesdays morning, day and evening. I work virtually and also maintain an office in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn.

  • Please see my current rate list here.

I am not in-network with any insurance companies, however I am able to offer you a receipt after payment so you may submit to your insurance company for out of network reimbursement. Fee payment is required at each session, a credit card on file is requested of each client (via Stripe) and monthly invoices are provided at the end of the month or at your request.

I reserve 10% of my practice for reduced rate clients. If you are requesting a reduced rate, please consider the maximum monthly (not per session) budget you might offer without enduring financial hardship. I may be able to offer back a session cadence/duration that supports you.

  • Insurance companies can be challenging to work with as an in-network provider and offering out-of-network benefits helps ensure my focus remains on you, your growth and your healing.

Maximé Therapy and Frances Maxime, LCSW is an out-of-network provider to insurance companies, meaning that you can be reimbursed - sometimes at an impressive rate - for my services by any insurance plan that includes out of network benefits. Some of those plans may include Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United HealthCare. Typically, to have insurance reimburse you for services, you must submit a claim for to them, as well as a billing statement from your mental health provider (me) which would include the details of the services provided, diagnosis and more. I am happy to offer you these statements, known as superbills, at the end of the month or as needed.

To determine if you have out of network coverage, contact your insurance company and ask them these questions:

    • Do I have out of network coverage for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT code 90834 individual adult session, or 90847 couples/family session)?

    • What your deductible is and whether you’ve met any of it yet?

    • Also ask what your co-insurance is - this indicates how much, percentage-wise, your insurance company pays after you’ve already met your deductible.

  • 45, 60, or 90 minutes for adult individuals, and 90 minutes for couples or families.

  • 48 hour/two business day cancellation policy to avoid being charged full fee. If I can reschedule you for that same week, I will.

  • Use the online scheduler if available, or email me any times you can NOT do a session, and I will offer you the times I have available for sessions in my current schedule, or, add you to the waitlist if I am full.

  • Many of my clients identify as women, some as men, and some as trans and nonbinary. I primarily work with folx in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, many of whom are single or partnered but not yet married. I offer inclusive couples counseling, serving all orientations and identities, as well as those with preferences for either poly/open/ENM, or monogamous relationships.

  • I ask you what you’d like to work on, often offer some kind of grounding exercise, offer some psycho-education around your nervous system or mindfulness teachings, listen, listen, listen and reflect back what you’re saying, offer alternate possibilities, ask questions about your history and current relationships.

  • I’m a clinical social worker and somatic psychotherapist, as well as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Focusing Oriented Therapist, Certified Mindfulness Teacher, Indigenous Focusing Oriented Therapist, Relational Life Therapist (for couples), certified in IFS/Internal Family Systems Level 1 and Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFS for couples) level 2. I also received training in Brainspotting 1 and 2, Coherence Therapy, attachment theory, neuroscience and more.

  • Clients need to know that usually, things take time but that with somatic work, slow is fast - by slowing down, we can actually learn more about what’s actually happening in our bodies using inquiries around images, words, sounds, textures, colors, and more, getting curious about the client’s felt sense and meaning-making process.

  • Usually therapy lasts anywhere from six months to two years, and normally, I’ll see clients for about a year and a half, although I have some clients I’ve been seeing for many years. It all depends on what a client needs: to tackle a specific issue or transition, or, to integrate a new way of looking at the world and of experiencing life.

  • Yes, it’s very likely at some point I will pull out… Beanie Babies! Yes, they’re helpful to talking about parts work…

And you’ll also probably see my Magic Wand (to demonstrate activation/settling in the nervous system) and my Hoberman Sphere (to explore where you feel more and less comfortable/doing work around boundaries).
